History of Sorenmobler

Origins in Denmark.

Sorenmobler comes from the Danish word for furniture "mobler" and the first part of Sorensen. Sorensen Furniture Company was established in 1976 and now has 9 family members in both management and production. Furniture, joinery and house building have run in the family for over 100 years and can be traced back to the picturesque island of Bornholm off the coast of Denmark. In the 1940's the Great Grandfather of the present generation ran a joinery and building business in Papatoetoe, Auckland.

Working with wood for 100 years

Ever since coming to New Zealand in the late 1800's the Sorensen family have been working in timber. As joiners, builders and furniture manufacturers. In the 1930' and 1940s Ezra Sorensen had a building and joinery business in Papatoetoe, which was taken over by his son Cedric. A number of years in this business and in Architecture followed before the current business was established in 1976.

Currently Sorenmobler have a very skilled workforce with many skilled tradesmen and polishers. These have been with the company a long time and add their skill and dedication to the creation of your piece of furniture.

Now based in Wanganui, Sorenmobler works from a specialist 30,000sq ft factory producing the finest range of native timber furniture in New Zealand.

Sorenmobler have always specialised in solid timber and began manufacturing solid Pine tables and chairs, and progressed to the more valuable and decorative NZ natives such as Rimu. They now manufacture a very extensive range from this beautiful timber as well as other premium species such as American Oak, NZ Totara, Southland Silver Beech and Matai.
